Dental Crowns

Dental crowns (or caps) are made to prolong the life of your own tooth. They completely cover a heavily filled or broken tooth.  They are made of ceramics or metal/gold and they can also be made with a combination of both.

Indications for dental crowns

  1. Smile improvement
  2. Prevention of fracture after a root-canal treatment
  3. To stabilize a fractured tooth
  4. To protect a large filling

What materials can crowns be made from?

The crown material is tailored to the patients individual needs and choice.
128 Harley dental suite provide crowns of a wide variety of materials. These include; gold crowns, metal crowns with a gold alloy with a porcelain outer shell, and all ceramic crowns. We use a highly reputed technician who ensures that the color of your crown perfectly matches the color of your natural teeth.

How do you prepare and fit a dental crown?

Typically crown treatment requires two-three visits to your dentist. At the first visit, the tooth is prepared to allow for a crown to fit on top. A provisional crown is then placed to protect your tooth until your next appointment. A second appointment may be required to try the crown in to ensure that it fits your bite and that you are happy with the way it looks. A third appointment is made to cement the crown on to the tooth.

How long do crowns last?

This is very much dependent on how well you take care of your teeth.
Dental crowns require optimal care and attention in the same way as you take care of your own teeth. We would expect a crown to last 10-15 years. Your dentist will advise you on how to take care of your crown and may recommend a maintenance regime or that you see a hygienist regularly.
